From Mrs. Hall:
Tonight will be a total LUNAR eclipse. The partial eclipse begins at 6:43 pm
[all local times]; the total
eclipse will last from 8:01-8:51 pm; and the final part of the partial eclipse
will then last until 10:09. The moon will not totally disappear, but rather, will
look to be a reddish-orange. It is perfectly safe to watch a lunar eclipse with the
naked eye, but a pair of binoculars makes it better. The next lunar
eclipse that is viewable in the US won’t be until Dec. 2010 [but it’ll be
daylight] and the next night time lunar eclipse won’t be until September 2015—my
5th graders will be seniors in High School!
If you happen to catch tonight’s eclipse, tell us what you observe in the comments.
